DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
Concrete: Influence of Moisture and Temperature-From Making to Breaking!
Speaker : Prof. Ananth Ramaswamy Date & Time : Septermber 15, 2017 at 3:30 PM Venue : MMCR, ME Dept.
The presentation will cover issues of concrete mixing process incorporating sustainable alternatives for cement replacement-supplementary cementitious materials; workability using high range water reducers and other chemical admixtures and their effects on the hydration process of such modified concrete. Influence of moisture consumption and migration on the drying and hardening process of concrete resulting in creep and shrinkage will be discussed. The significance of time dependent losses (creep and shrinkage) on losses in prestressed concrete will be highlighted. The presentation will also cover effects of high temperature exposure on hardened concrete response leading to its degradation. Experimental results and modelling issues to predict the load deformation response under these coupled processes will be presented.
